Instructions to make DIY Boba Milk Tea Basics | Tapioca Pearl Milktea | Bubble Tea

  1. TEA- Boil 2L of water or more if you prefer lighter tea taste. I used a 60g tea bag and steeped it in the boiled water.

Steep for 30minutes and try to move it around every now and then.

Cool and then transfer to containers or bottles and refrigerate.
  2. Boba Pearls- cook according to package instructions. The Taiwanese brown sugar pearls I bought cook for 30 minutes, but I did it in 20 minutes only, as I prefer a chewy texture.

Bring the water to a boil before adding pearls and don't over cook because it will melt.
  3. (Boba...) Turn off heat and rest for 30 minutes.
Discard water. Pour in new water, shake lightly (rinse) and drain. Repeat until water is clear. Drain and transfer to a container.
  4. How To Store Boba:
COOKED- Cook a simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water) then add to the pearls if you want it to last longer in the fridge (approx 3 days). Refrigerate and let it soak. Stir every now and then to keep them from forming into one big blob lol.

As for me, I just add 2 Tbsp Coco Sugar (i cooked approx. 300g pearls) and a little water- because we consume them fast anyway LOL. I add a Tbsp of water and stir it when it starts sticking to each other.
  5. How To Store Boba:
UNCOOKED- Store in a vacuum sealed container or bag. Then keep it in a dark, cool and dry cupboard.
  6. Making Your Milk Tea- in a tall glass, add your sinkers- these are your boba, nata de coco, jello and the like.

Traditionally you shake the tea and milk in ice before pouring. But since I keep both in the chiller, its already cold.

Pour tea in a tall glass 3/4 full. Then add your milk. I use low fat or skimmed to keep calories, fats and cholesterol low.
  7. Toppers for presentation- add a layer of powdered milk (caution- since its cold, its hard to stir in, but i like the extra taste of it.) or use cream or whipped if u don't mind the added calories and fat.

Sprinkle Muscovado or Coco sugar (or use brown sugar) on top.

And I also added powdered graham cookies (these actually sink through unless you layer it on top of the powdered milk or whipping cream).
Or use crushed cookie bits instead as additional sinker.
  8. If you prefer sweet, add syrup or sugar as to your liking. As for me, I drink as is, (sinkers and toppers are already sweet) or add a bit of stevia. Stir and enjoy!
